Just wondering if/what others use or have found as a free or inexpensive alternative for garage band that can be used with PC.
Thanks,

We use Audacity. I don't know if it compares exactly but it gives you alot of options to edit audio.

Here is another option
LMMS is a free cross-platform alternative to commercial programs like FL Studio®, which allow you to produce music with your computer. This includes the creation of melodies and beats, the synthesis and mixing of sounds, and arranging of samples. You can have fun with your MIDI-keyboard and much more; all in a user-friendly and modern interface.

We use Adobe Soundbooth which is now Adobe Audition and Audacity here at Ravenna.

Holy Myers sent this out to the School Librarians, but I thought I would help her out and send it to other groups as well.  Can you help answer her questions?  Thanks!

Community - One to one computers

By Holly Myers

November 28, 2011

Hello all! We are looking at trying to go one to one with computers next school
year and we just want to feel out others to see what they are doing. Some
questions that have come up are: Does the school provide a case to each
student? Do the students and parents have to sign a waiver? What kind of
insurance do you have for the computers? Are the students allowed to take the
computers out of the building? If anyone has any advice, we would really
appreciate it. You can email me at holmyers@esu10.org
or call the school (North Loup-Scotia) at 308 245 3201 or leave your
suggestions as comments. Thanks so much for your help! :)

Does anyone have a scanner (or alternative) that they recommend for a teacher wanting to project a worksheet, (to model with Smartboard) that could perform similar to an Elmo, but not have the cost of an Elmo??
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I purchased an iPevo Point 2 View USB Document Camera from the 2011 ESU Co-op order for around $70.  With this document camera, you can take still photos or have a continuous feed to your computer.  I use it in the library to show the pages of the books I am reading to my elementary library classes.  Here is the iPevo website - www.ipevo.com

Avermedia has a reasonable model about half the price of ELMO.  Ladibugs are pretty decent too, but costs vary depending on features.  For standalone devices, you have to be careful not to get the cheapest one out there.

IPEVO is another very good alternative and as long as you can control the light to work well with it, that is a great price.

iPod Touch/iPad Workshop

September 22, 2010

9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

ESU 10 – Kearney, NE

https://odie.esu10.org

This Thursday, September 22, Lisa Pospishil of Norfolk Public Schools will be at ESU 10 to share her expertise in using iPod Touches and iPads in education as well as work with ESU 10 teachers to incorporate the use of the iPods/iPads into school curriculum.

Teachers should bring an iPod Touch as well as a laptop (for researching and taking notes), and should have a working knowledge of using an iPod Touch and/or an iPad.  The workshop will not cover the basics of iPods or iPads and will focus on reading, although the material will apply to other subject areas as well.

Cost is $25 per person.

When registering, click on the TASTE Workshop.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
